Reverse Raffle and WINGS Introduction a huge success
Date of Event Hawthorn Cricket Club: Mon Feb 11, 2019 3:21PM
HCC took on HAFC in an exhibition T10 match!
On Sunday 10th February, the club held it's major fundraiser for the year at Rathmines Road Reserve.
The day started with a T10 exhibition match between the cricket club and co-tennant, the Hawthorn Amateur Football Club. Disgracefully the cricketers lost (sarcasm intended) but great fun was held by all. Angus McIlroy was instrumental in getting the game together and whilse he will never captain another Hawthorn team while my backside points towards the ground (more sarcasm intended), he did a terrific job.
Both club Presidents, Dale Wilkinson and Pat Clancey then spoke about WINGS and what the program is and means to the the Hawthorn community. We watched a powerful video about mental health that the football club had put together. We will be holding a special event solely in the name of WINGS later in the year, but the purpose of today was just to introduce it to our members and supporters.
Maggie Stamoulis (Bendigo Bank) was on hand to present two cheques for $10,000 to go towards a new electronic scoreboard to be installed at Rathmines. We can't wait for it to be up and running in time for next cricket season.
The Reverse Draw was once again a great event and credit goes to Jack Robinson for his tireless work in organising the clubs biggest fundraiser. We sold a record number of tickets and all fundraising event proceeds throughout the day will be used to kick start our WINGS mental health fund.
Olly Chauhan earned rave reviews from all over the quality of the chicken he had slaved over since 8am and with good reason. It was absolutely sensational. Thanks Olly for all your help on the day. All up, Olly spent close to 12 hours at the club helping out which is a terrific effort from a 1st year player to the club.
The two piece band featuring Mitch Peters and Tom Wright was a big hit as they belted out classic after classic all day.
The draw was eventually won by Adam Rugg, another 1st year player, who pockets the $2000. Well done Ruggy!
To everyone else that came and supported, I thank you. To all that helped and I'm bound to miss some people, but to Armlegs, Sanket, Chocko (bartenders), Angus Ian McIlroy (fundraising), Deansy and Browny (high catch contest), Rob Ryan (facility permit and liquor licence for the day) and last but not least, Pat Clancey and all from the HAFC (huge numbers of support), we couldn't have done it without you.
Walshy is busy with his calculator working out the final profit and WINGS contribution made for the day and that will be communicated in due course.
Our next event will be the ever famous "All Nighter Whiter" to be held at Rathmines on the Sunday evening of the Semi-Final weekend (public holiday Monday) where all players stay in their whites for the whole night and we don't leave until we've emptied the fridge! A super fun night and great way to celebrate the season that's been and congratulate hopefullt a few teams that will have Grand Finals the following week.
Friday April 12th is the proposed date of the Presentation Night which will once again be held at HA Smith Reserve. This will be confirmed by the end of February.
Thanks again from one very happy President,
